Taquito bandit terrorizes Northland QuikTrip

Now, look: We understand the temptation to steal taquitos at QuikTrip. If you’re feeling savory, they can be a very tasty, filling treat. Steak and Cheese, Pepper Jack, Spicy Chicken – not a dud in the bunch. Plus, there’s no bar codes or packaging that might alert a security system. Tong ’em off of that roller broiler thing, drop ’em into a plastic sack, play it cool, walk out the door and, boom, you’re in Flavor Country.
But QuikTrip is such a reliable, quality business, and it actually pays its employees like human beings. Also, those taquitos are two for $2.22, which is a very reasonable price. You might say it’s already a steal at that price!
Alas, that is not how Liberty citizen Christopher Kirby saw things during the still, early hours of Monday morning.
Just after midnight, according to a report from the North Kansas City Police Department, Kirby was spotted lifting taquitos inside the QT at 1010 Armour Road by a store clerk, who then alerted a nearby uniformed off-duty officer. His spot blown up, Kirby exited the store, jumped in his red 2000 Acura Integra, put it in reverse, and screeched out of the lot. In doing so, he nearly ran over the officer who had pursued him out of the convenience store.
A 90-mile-per-hour chase ensued, during which Kirby nearly ran over a second officer. After police disabled his car using spike strips, Kirby was apprehended while hiding behind a house on the 5100 block of Denver Avenue. Alcohol and drug paraphernalia were found in the car. Kirby’s priors include marijuana possession, domestic assault, first-degree property damage, first-degree burglary, first-degree tampering with a motor vehicle, second-degree assault, resisting arrest and failure to appear. KCTV5 has more from the report.
In related QuikTrip taquito news, what happened to the Nacho Beef taquito? Is it still available at any KC-area locations? Has it been permanently discontinued? Now that would be a real crime.
