Talib Kweli at the Midland, May 10

The last time Talib Kweli meandered this direction, he landed at the Granada in Lawrence. (Check out Nadia Pflaum’s review of the concert — and afterparty — here.) By all accounts, it was one kick-ass, conscious party, featuring an opening set by local MC Steddy P and a slew of other local rappers in the audience. Fear not rising gas prices: the chronicler of Crooklyn will be coming to a much closer metro venue for his next visit to Kansas City. He’ll rock the mic with the help of DJ Hi-Tek at the Midland Theatre on May 10th, supporting the release of the duo’s follow-up to 2000’s Train of Thought. Revolutions Per Minute is due out the day after Talib Kweli’s Kansas City date, and here’s what Hi-Tek told our reviewer about the album last time they were in town:

As for what to expect on the new album, Hi-Tek quoted Jay-Z: If lyrics sold / truth be told / I’d probably be / Lyrically Talib Kweli.
