Take the Mic

The last thing Damon Patterson would do is urge folks to drink up. But if they did, it might help solidify the location of Open Stage Tuesdays, the weekly, all-ages variety show he organizes through Chameleon Arts and Youth Development. Now held at Club Rain (8015 Troost) from 8 p.m. to midnight, the event has bounced around a bit. Patterson says bars are reluctant to book a show that draws people who don’t run up alcohol tabs. Plus, he truly opens the stage to anyone — rappers, rockers, dancers, comedians, even jugglers. “Basically, anything goes, as long as there’s no nudity,” Patterson says. The event includes an open jam for the musicians and a networking segment. “It’s kind of like an artist meeting place,” he says. Admission costs $5.
