Sweet Freedom

When Darryl Burton was sentenced to life in prison for a crime he didn’t commit, he became a prisoner twice, held captive by both his cell and his hatred for the justice system. Only after he embraced forgiveness, praying for those who had wronged him, did rays of hope begin to shine. Last August, with the help of local lawyer Cheryl Pilate and an organization called Centurion Ministries, Burton was finally exonerated. He had spent 24 years behind bars. Today, he marks the first anniversary of his freedom with a public celebration at the Community Christian Church (4601 Main). The party goes from 3 to 6 p.m. Call 816-561-6531 for more details.
