Suzannah Johannes, you’re such a tease!

It’s been about a year since Lawrence singer-songwriter Suzannah Johannes wooed us with her debut EP on Range Life Records.

Thanks to sublime droplets of folk ambrosia such as the NPR pick “Horserider’s Smile,” that was one of our favorite records from ’08.

There was a tour, a Daytrotter session and then…silence. Where, oh, where, did our Suzannah go?

Well, she’s back, sort of, and not a moment too soon. Last week, Fader caught up with her in an unnamed dive in St. Louis for the mag’s At the Bar series. Here she is, getting you in the mood for an after-work drink (and for the Pogues’ Oct. 25 show at the Midland) strumming a cover “If I Should Fall from Grace with God.”

Suzannah’s digital takeover continues with her second Daytrotter session. Posted today, the in-studio performance features two new Johannes songs and two covers: “Don’t You Take it too Bad” by Townes Van Zandt and an acapella version of Dylan’s “Nobody ‘Cept You.” The best of the bunch is her own “Whisper to Me,” a classic-sounding, meandering melody that showcases her clear, honest, delicate voice — a voice all the more soulful for being completely unaffected (unlike so many of today’s indie warblers).
