Supernauts

On paper, great pop-and-roll all sounds the same, no matter how much you play it up. You’ll insist that the Supernauts‘ vocals soar, the guitars crunch and the melodies gum up in your brainstem. You’ll be like, Damn, these guys dig punk and T. Rex and great big shimmery glam hooks. And they probably have such killer record collections they’d get pissed if we mentioned that their “Every Revolution” sounds like a great Oasis song, which — we swear — totally isn’t an insult. But you won’t know any of this for sure until you check out the Supernauts’ rowdy, sparkling, sing-along-if-your-voice-can-scrape-up-as-high-as-Jordan-Smith’s type of rock for yourself. The sound is classic, but it’s theirs — and yours, too, thank God. Now, like piss-happy puppies claiming their space, these Supernauts — fresh from a West Coast tour that saw them owning the Viper Room — are marking KC as theirs in the next weeks. They start with a Wednesday-night acoustic residency at Grinders on December 21. Full-bore rock madness ensues at the Bottleneck Thursday and at Davey’s on December 30. Plenty of chances to hear how you know what you’re talking about.
