Suco the chimp to remain at the Kansas City Zoo for a while

The drama surrounding Suco the chimp continued on Friday, when Deborah Kaumans and Mark Archigo pleaded guilty to keeping a chimp in the city without a license. In May, The Pitch reported on Suco’s bizarre history as a trucking chimp and Kaumans’ and Archigo’s trial for keeping her within city limits, which is a violation of city ordinance.

Kaumans and Archigo were charged after Suco (who was left unattended in the cab of the couple’s semi) got loose last October, ambled through a neighborhood and smashed the windshield on a police cruiser. A judge found Kaumans and Archigo guilty, and they appealed the ruling. Today, they dropped the appeal and paid restitution for the damage to the car. But one of the chimp’s owners vows that this isn’t the end of Suco’s epic saga.
