STURGIS IN URICH

The American biker rally is a unique cottage industry. In many states, relatively small motorcycle clubs have started modest weekend parties that, over the years, boomed into massive events requiring tent cities to shelter thousands of bikers drinking through their BYOB supplies and having as much fun as possible. For too long, Kansas City-area bikers have been denied a rally to call their own, but that might change if the first-ever Grand River Rally is successful. Organizers already guarantee on-site tattooing, body painting and lots of hard-rock cover bands for this 21-and-over event. Nice. Hogs rev tonight through Sunday in Urich, Missouri, about an hour south of KC. Admission is $40 on Friday and $30 on Saturday. (There’s no reason to show up Sunday because that’s when everyone pulls up stakes.) For more information and a schedule of events, see grandriverrally.com.
