Stories Without Sound

Fiction, daydreams and observations of downtown Lawrence come together in Short Stories, a new exhibit of drawings and prints at the Lawrence Arts Center (940 New Hampshire). “I think people can enter into these pieces and make up their own story,” says artist David Lowenstein, whose 22-foot-long stencil installation is the feature in the wordless exhibit. Spurred by morning walks to his Lawrence studio and a local coffee shop, the show builds on brief interactions that Lowenstein has witnessed over the years. “I guess we do it all the time,” he says. “You see fragments of people’s lives — laughing, arguing — but you never really see what’s going on.” Short Stories is on display with another show, Unsung: Artists 30 and Under, through June 20.
