Stories of the Insured and Screwed

You might not have insurance, but at least you can see the horror stories of those who do for free Thursday night. Heartland Healthcare For All is sponsoring a 7 p.m. screening of Michael Moore’s Sicko at the Screenland Theatre. The uninsured get in free. Julie Pierce (who tells the story of her insurance company and her employer denying her husband a bone marrow transplant in Sicko) and others who’ve fought their insurance companies to get care will discuss the film and their plights.

Also, it sounds like Tracy Pierce Jr. might get the test done to see if he has the same cancer gene that killed his father. Julie Pierce sent an e-mail out today saying the actual test would cost $946 total, not $6,000 as she’d told us before. “I still would need to come up with airfare, hotel, etc.,” Pierce writes. “But this is much better than the original quote. Things are looking better.” — Justin Kendall
