Steve Dennis, former Grandview mayor, died on Monday at age 52

Steve Dennis, mayor of Grandview until 2014, has died, The Pitch confirmed on Wednesday. He was 52.

The Jackson County Advocate, which broke news of Dennis’s passing, identified heart complications as the cause. He leaves behind a wife and three children.

Dennis was elected mayor Grandview in 2009 and again in 2013. His resigned less than a year into his second term in January 2014. Dennis, it was revealed, had expensed personal purchases on a city-issued credit card, as well as meals that were purportedly held with other elected officials who denied they had attended them.

Soon after he pleaded guilty to a federal charge associated with setting up a charitable organization that used donations for his personal expenses. He was sentenced to a year in prison.

According to his LinkedIn page, Dennis had been working as a regional director for Norton & Norton since September.
