Stanford’s Comedy Club has closed its Legends location, plans to reopen in Overland Park

  • The Glazers are on the move again.

When we profiled Stanford’s Comedy Club owner Craig Glazer last year, he mentioned wanting to move his operation out of the Legends, in western Wyandotte County, and into a more populous part of the city. This past winter, he dipped his toes in the waters of midtown, at the Uptown Theater’s Conspiracy Room, with six straight weekends of shows. But ultimately, Glazer and his brother/business partner, Jeff Glazer, have settled on south Johnson County as their new home. As of this past weekend, the Legends location of Stanford’s has closed, with a reopening at 7328 West 119th Street – in the strip mall formerly known as Rosana Square Shopping Center, now One Block South – set for later this summer.

Glazer says he’s excited about recent Johnson County additions like the PrairieFire development on 135th Street.

“Legends was going in more of a family direction the last several years,” he says. “They’ve added a lot of shopping, and there’s soccer, the casino, some corporate stuff. But there’s no real nightlife. At the new space, we’ll be right next to Fuel and Kanza Hall. It’s a better fit.”

It’s not Glazer’s first foray into Overland Park. His comedy club was located near 106th Street and Metcalf in the mid-00s. “That part of Overland Park is a lot different, though,” Glazer says. “And our operation will be different from those days, too. We’re going to have a restaurant at the new place. When we open, we’ll have a cocktail lounge, a restaurant, and comedy, of course. We’re not sure about the food yet. My brother wants to do sushi maybe. It’ll be way bigger than what we have at the Legends, which is just finger food. Then the plan is to expand the patio and put some TVs out there. And eventually expand next door into a late-night bar.”

Construction is set to begin soon. Glazer says his target opening date for the new place is August 15.
