Sporting KC’s Teal Bunbury out for the season with torn ACL

  • The loss of Bunbury will sting SKC.

There’s bad news out of Livestrong Sporting Park. Sporting Kansas City announced Monday afternoon that forward Teal Bunbury tore his ACL and damaged his LCL in his left knee during Sunday’s game against the New York Red Bulls. It’s expected that he’ll miss six to eight months.

The loss is a big one for Sporting. Bunbury has five goals and an assist in 22 games this season, which is tied for second on the team. He’s also third on the team in shots taken with 50. In 2011 he led the team with 11 goals.

The injury came in the fourth minute of the game when he collided with Red Bulls goalkeeper Bill Gaudette. Kei Kamara ended up scoring on the play. The team says Bunbury will undergo surgery on Friday.
