Sporting KC’s Kyle Miller uses his head to great effect
Anyone who has played a soccer video game has attempted the desperate move of sending a player flying at the opposing goalkeeper in the hopes of blocking a ball back into the net before time expires on a match you’re losing. The computer never lets it happen. Thankfully, despite all the technology at Livestrong Sporting Park, it’s still humans who play the games.
In injury time (the moments added on after 90 minutes to account for stoppages in play) at Livestrong last night, Sporting KC defender Kyle Miller (the Overland Park native and Rockhurst University star signed on May 30) thrilled the hometown crowd when he managed to get his head on an attempted clearance by Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begovic. The ball bounced over Begovic and into the net in the 91st minute giving Sporting KC a 1-1 tie in the friendly match with the team from the Premier League. Look for Miller’s goal to be a mainstay of highlight reels for the next 24 hours.
