Sporting KC’s Kei Kamara was both the hero and the goat last night

Sunday night’s Sporting Kansas City tilt against the New York Red Bulls had plenty of hype. Heading into the nationally televised game, Sporting was atop the MLS East, just two points ahead of the Red Bulls in the standings. Immediately, SKC looked like the better of the teams, as Kei Kamara scored on a long header off a wild play in the penalty area in the fourth minute. He now leads the team with 10 goals. Not long after that, though, in the 24th minute, Kamara scored his 11th goal of the season. Unfortunately, it was an own goal, tying the game. Sporting coach Peter Vermes was as diplomatic as he could be after the game, calling it “soft.”

With the frustrating 1-1 tie, Sporting stays in first place by two points. They next play on Saturday at Livestrong Sporting Park against Toronto FC.
