Sporting Kansas City advances to US Open Cup final
Sporting Kansas City advanced to the US Open Cup final with a 2-0 win over the Philadelphia Union Thursday night. Striker Jacob Peterson scored on a header off a Graham Zusi free kick in the 65th minute. Zusi then finished the Union off with style during second-half stoppage time with a shot from midfield.
The Lamar Hunt US Open Cup is a single-elimination tournament that features 64 teams from Major League Soccer, amateur clubs (who actually win sometimes) and semi-pro teams. Sporting will host the final against the Seattle Sounders FC on August 8 at Livestrong Sporting Park. Sporting last won the cup in 2004.
