Spit Happens tonight at the Juke House

The Brown Bombers take the stage tonight

Anyone wary of attending a night of slam poetry has our sympathy. Opening a mic to those who think they’re poets without any sort of editorial intervention is just inviting drek. But you should set aside your fears for just tonight to check out the “Honor Roll” poetry exhibition for the Kansas City Teen Slam Team, starting at 7 p.m., at the Juke House, 1700 East 18th Street.

You don’t have to worry about quality control at this slam because the performers are so good they were just accepted to the Brave New Voices Teen Poetry Competition — an international contest that’s been featured on HBO, and where the KC team placed in the Top 20 in 2008.
