Spend your weekend at Love Garden

Looks like Love Garden Sounds in Lawrence is your place to be this weekend. The record shop has both an in-store performance Saturday night and big collection unveiling Sunday morning.

Saturday, February 20, the store plays host to a free in-store from Miles Bonny, in support of his new release INcense & Wine. Bonny will start DJing at 8:00 p.m., with a live set at 9:00 p.m. The CD/flask combo we told you about last week will be discounted, as well.

Sunday, February 21, at 11:00 a.m., Love Garden starts its new Sunday hours, and simultaneously makes available a new collection the store recently acquired. What you’ll be able to find:

Lots of 4AD LPs, 12″s and 7″ singles from the early-to-mid 80s, as well as tons of Sub Pop singles and LPs. Add to that lots of singles and albums from the shoegaze and pop Creation label bands, and a bunch of Rough Trade singles and LPs…and that’s just for starters. There are some Amphetamine Reptile and Estrus records, as well as Beggars Banquet label material and lots of Wedding Present singles. That means we’ve suddenly got Pixies 12″ singles on 4AD and New Order 12″ singles on Factory. There are records from bands that were good and only sort-of caught on (think Primitives, Died Pretty, Killdozer & the Fastbacks) and records from plenty of bands that DID catch on (think Nick Cave, Sugarcubes, Cocteau Twins & Gary Numan.)

Bring cash, and lots of it. This is pretty much an indie rock fan’s wet dream, and it’s sure to get raided fairly quickly. And if you show up when the doors open, they’ll have drinks for you early birds (juice for the under-21’ers, and “stronger drinks for folks who can legally consume them”). Full details are available here.
