Spell It Out

Since mid-April, Hamburger Mary’s (101 Southwest Boulevard, 816-842-1919) has raised about $40,000 for local charities, including the Kansas City Free Health Clinic, the Kansas City Anti-Violence Project and the Good Samaritan Project (an AIDS service organization). How? Through the power of bingo. Each Wednesday at 8 p.m., Valerie Versace hosts charity bingo in the main dining room of the purple two-story Crossroads eatery. Cards cost $1 each, and the night includes 10 games. Use as many cards as you’d like in your quest for bingo glory. Calm your nerves with $5 special-tease cocktails. This week’s games benefit Friends of Halfway Home, and funds raised will help pay for heartworm treatments and other services for animals at Halfway Home Pet Adoptions. There’s an ATM on-site for those who forget their cash, the only currency accepted for bingo cards.— Berry Anderson
