Sonics Owner Always Wanted OKC

Remember Seattle SuperSonics owner Clay Bennett calling Kansas City a “viable” option? Don’t count on it. Sonics minority owner Aubrey McClendon told an Oklahoma City newspaper that the owners always intended to relocate the team to OKC.

“We didn’t buy the team to keep it in Seattle; we hoped to come here,” Aubrey McClendon told The Journal Record on Monday.

This ESPN wire story says KC is still an option, but thanks to McClendon’s honesty, it appears our Sprint Center will remain without a tenant. — Justin Kendall
