Something to Talk About

If a picture is worth a thousand words and films are projected at around 24 frames per second, then streaming video is worth at least 24 thousand words a second. Combine art pieces and video in one exhibit, and it’s a recipe for discourse. Check out visual art that inspires discussion today at the 20/21 Gallery “Conversation Wall” in the Spencer Museum of Art (1301 Mississippi, Lawrence). The wall holds works by Albert Bloch, Robert Sudlow and Keith Jacobshagen, with projected video shot and edited by Kurt Funke. The works explore themes of place and how people are connected by places. Each of the artists shares a connection to KU — and, thereby, a connection to one another and to the patrons who view their work. The free gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. today. See spencerart.ku.edu or call 785-864-4710 for more information.
