Soldier robbed, shot in the ankle while jogging on Little Blue Trace Trail

  • The sheriff is investigating the shooting of a soldier.

A 25-year-old U.S. Army soldier was robbed and shot while jogging on the of Little Blue Trace Trail Monday afternoon.

The soldier, an active-duty member of the U.S. Army and on a four-day leave from Fort Riley, told a sheriff’s deputy that he was jogging on the trail when he was approached by a man with a gun. The gunman demanded the soldier’s backpack (a camelback water pack). The soldier gave the man the backpack and tried to run away when the robber was distracted. The gunman fired one shot, hitting the solider in his left ankle.
