So Nostalgic
No one gets excited about the word plaid except Welshmen seeking independence from the European Union. And the phrase forever plaid? Sounds like a hell created by your grandma where an endless strip of gutters needs cleaning and the Glenn Miller Orchestra plays until your ears bleed. But Forever Plaid is actually an Off Broadway musical that eulogizes the all-male harmony-pop groups of the early ’60s. The comedy depicts a quartet of squeaky-clean high school crooners ready to hit the doo-wop big time who instead hit a bus full of Beatles-adoring Catholic schoolgirls. As the play begins, the Plaids come back from the dead to perform that one show ripped from their grasp. Old-time hits such as “Heart and Soul” and Glenn Miller’s “Perfidia” are included in the play’s soundtrack. Performances of Forever Plaid run at the Chestnut Fine Arts Theater (234 North Chestnut in Olathe) at 8 p.m. tonight and Saturday, 2 and 7 p.m. Sunday, and 4 and 8 p.m. Monday.
