Slow Southern Steel Documents Southern Metal

Even though it’s not due out until 2010, Slow Southern Steel looks to be an intriguing glimpse at modern Southern metal. It’s directed by Rwake vocalist CT and David Lipke, and according to the press release about the film, it
“peers into the world of true southern metal/doom through live footage and personal interviews; CT’s devout commitment/knowledge/love of the topic at hand bringing the movie to life in a way few first-time directors can.”
Notable bands (i.e., ones with whom most folks might have a passing familiarity) include Dixie Witch, Eyehategod, Jucifer, Kylesa, Speedealer, Weedeater, and more, and the film’s still shooting. Slow Southern Steel is scheduled to debut at the Little Rock Film Festival in May of 2010, with many of the bands featured in attendance. The DVD edition is slated to be released in 2011 via up-until-now-vinyl-only Chicago imprint, I’m Better Than Everyone.
It’s nice to see a film that delves into modern Southern rock, as opposed to yet another goddamn Lynyrd Skynyrd documentary. We’ve all seen , now let’s move on. This comes highly recommended if you like smoking dope, growing a long-ass beard, tattoos, and drop-D tuning.
