Six Feet Under

Chris Barnes, formerly of criminally overrated gross-out “pioneers” Cannibal Corpse, apparently hasn’t lost any of the obsessions that first splattered that band on the map. In fact, Barnes could have ended up a poster boy for why death metal is, um, dead if it weren’t for the intensity of his meditations on gore. In fact, this guy is so preoccupied with filth, you gotta wonder about his mental health. Yes, Barnes’ new band, Six Feet Under, can be disgusting and one-dimensional, but give credit where it’s due. As much as it’s a drag for death-metal bands to traffic the same old schtick, Barnes at his best achieves a kind of disturbing poetry.
