Simian Liberation Army

Post-apocalyptic convict James Cole (Bruce Willis) wishes he had it as easy as Marty
McFly. When Marty travels back in time, only the futures of Doc Brown and Marty’s family are at stake. Cole, on the other hand, surfs the space-time continuum to prevent a weaponized virus from wiping out 5 billion people, and he doesn’t always hit his target destination with flux-capacitor accuracy. Landing in an asylum in 1996, Cole must persuade his consulting psychiatrist (Madeleine Stowe) that he’s not, in fact, as bughouse as fellow patient Jeffrey Goines (Oscar nominee Brad Pitt) who, nutty or not, may hold the secret to the future — or, um, present — that Cole is trying to pre-empt. Only director Terry Gilliam could have sprung 12 Monkeys; it screens at 6:30 p.m. in the Durwood Film Vault at the Kansas City, Missouri, Central Library (14 West 10th Street, 816-701-3400) as the free film series “Badlands” concludes.
