Shonen Knife founding members Naoko and Atsuko Yamano, along with newest Shonen Knife drummer Etsuko Nakanishi made their Lawrence debut last Sunday at the Bottleneck following an amazingly inappropriate lineup of opening performers. I felt like I was at one of those 1950s variety shows that feature a completely random succession of acts, like a ventriloquist followed by performing dogs followed by the Beatles. In this analogy, Shonen Knife are the Beatles, in case you didn’t catch that. And if you’re the person who packaged this tour, please consult a neurologist about your inability to categorize objects such as rock bands, because it may indicate injury to your temporal lobe.
