Sherron Collins in the NBA D-League is not a punishment, KSHB

“Sherron Collins‘s NBA career has taken a wrong turn,” reads the lede to a KSHB Channel 41 story on the Charlotte Bobcats sending the former Jayhawks point guard to the NBA’s Development League. And it’s totally wrong.

The D-League isn’t a “wrong turn” for Collins. It’s the right move. KSHB treats Collins’ D-League assignment to the Maine Red Claws as a demotion. It’s not. A demotion would be getting cut. The Bobcats’ sending Collins to the Development League means they see something in him. Something they want to hang onto. Something they want to, you know, develop.
