Insomniac C-SPAN viewers might have seen Missouri’s own Claire McCaskill presiding over the Senate last month, as Demo-crats pulled an all-nighter in an effort to force a vote on withdrawal from Iraq. In a scene described in The Washington Post, McCaskill appeared to sneak a nap at 1 a.m., as her distinguished colleague from Iowa, Tom Harkin, prattled on. Closer inspection determined that McCaskill was using a Blackberry in her lap. McCaskill reads e-mail, but Missouri residents have an opportunity to speak to a real person from her office today from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Bruce R. Watkins Cultural Center (3700 Blue Parkway). McCaskill staffers are holding “kitchen table talks” in cities across the state, giving constituents the opportunity to speak on the issues, inquire about federal benefits or learn more about the junior senator’s dazzling texting technique.
