Frankly, it is a miracle that I am at the office right now. When I went to bed last night, around 4 a.m., I didn’t bother to set my alarm. “They’ll just have to deal,” I told myself, referring to my employers. I slept in the middle of the bed, my arms and legs extended like the Vitruvian Man, visions of Salvy dancing in my head.

Some combination of alcohol and anxiety and adrenalin roused me from my slumber around 9 a.m. So here I am. Like many other grown adults, though, I will be weaseling out of work again tomorrow to attend the parade. Over at the Shawnee Mission School District, there’s enough concern about teachers doing this that they’re considering canceling classes on Tuesday. From a release:

In addition to interest in attending celebratory festivities in honor of the Kansas City Royals winning the 2015 World Series, scheduled to be held in Kansas City tomorrow, there is growing concern about adequate staffing. District leaders will make a decision by 12 p.m. today, Monday, Nov. 2, in order to allow parents to make alternative plans, if necessary.

A heroic government act, if seen through. We encourage other school district and employers to also consider such action. We’ll update.

UPDATE: Metropolitan Community College has officially canceled classes on Tuesday.

UPDATE: SMSD is indeed canceling all classes on Tuesday.

UPDATE: Blue Valley is also canceling classes on Tuesday.

UPDATE: KCMO schools are NOT canceling classes on Tuesday.
