Sharice Davids already has a 2020 challenger
Sara Hart Weir, a Mission resident and former president and CEO of the National Down Syndrome Society, announced on Monday she would challenge U.S. Congresswoman Sharice Davids next fall in the race for Kansas’ Third Congressional District. Weir is 37. She’s the first Republican to declare her candidacy in the race.
As the Star notes, Weir will “likely face a primary fight against former Kansas Republican Party chair Amanda Adkins, who has also been laying the groundwork for a campaign.”
Weir is also a former lobbyist for Big Pharma juggernaut GlaxoSmithKline, a fact that will likely find its way into campaign ads opposing Weir.
Davids, a Democrat, won her current seat in 2018, besting Republican Kevin Yoder by nine points.
