Call it odd timing. Opening statements in the trial of Scott Roeder, the man accused of fatally shooting Wichita abortion provider George Tiller during a church service, are scheduled to begin this morning, which also happens to be the 37th anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court’s historic decision legalizing abortion, Roe v. Wade.

KMBC Channel 9 is advertising a “live” link, which will apparently broadcast opening arguments in the case at 10 a.m.

Roeder has told reporters that he killed Tiller to save the lives of unborn babies. He is charged with first-degree murder.
