School of Seven Bells

If you’re the type of person who regularly reads music blogs, then the sound of Brooklyn trio School of Seven Bells — lush, fuzzy dream-pop — will be very familiar. The group is at the front of a new micro genre, stirring dreamy waters alongside other blog buzzers such as M83 and Beach House. This is due partly to former Secret Machine Benjamin Curtis, who writes tuneful, Kevin Shields-style guitar lines that ring out from the band’s dense haze of sound. Just as essential are the vocals of identical twins Alejandra and Claudia Deheza, which vacillate between haunting and angelic, the sound of a graceful ghost soaring up to heaven.
