Catch a load of prison mug shots at the Kansas City Public Library’s Central Branch (14 West 10th Street, 816-701-3400). Developed by the National Archives, the exhibit Mugged! A Rogue’s Gallery of Leavenworth Penitentiary Mug Shots features turn-of-the-century images depicting criminals of all castes and skill levels. Kenneth M. LaMaster, who worked as a corrections officer and is now a prison historian, lectures at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday as part of the exhibit. LaMaster, author of a new book, U.S. Penitentiary (Images of America), will discuss the history of the Leavenworth Penitentiary and some of the famous inmates incarcerated there.
