Saved From the Trashcan

Just when you thought Back From the Grave, Lux & Ivy’s Favorites, Las Vegas Grind, Nuggets, and Pebbles had raided all the garage punk unknowns to be found, comes Saved From the Trashcan.
The blog, ran by a gentleman from Amsterdam who goes by the name of Fedor, shares long out-of-print comps that go for major bucks on Amazon. The most recent example, Halloween Stomp: Jazz & Big Band Dance Music for a Haunted House Party goes for $49 used, and $256 new.
The big deal about the blog is that it saves records from the dustbin. There’s a lot of United States thrift shop finds, but there’s also stuff from all over Europe. Petula Clark doing a version of Johnny Rivers’ “Secret Agent Man” in French? Yessir. I’m a sucker for French garage pop in general, and this blog feeds that need in spades. There are also volumes that focus on psych, exotica, and disco, amongst other wildness.
The only downside is that Fedor uses Rapidshare to upload all his comps. While free, it’s limited in terms of the number of open slots, and lately, you’ve had to either shell out money for a paid account or wait until late at night to get a download going.
