Sanitary and Side-Splitting

It’s not easy to hold the dual titles of comic’s comic and crowd favorite simultaneously. But funnyman Brian Regan had the DIY chutzpah to do things his own clean-yet-cutting way for two decades, scoring spots on Carson, Letterman and Conan, selling more than 100,000 copies of his Brian Regan Live CD and cultivating a rabid following along the way. The determination paid off when Comedy Central finally took notice and made 2007 the Year of the Donkey Impersonator, granting him a development deal, an hourlong special, a Standing Up DVD and a national tour. The goofy, overanimated, oft-bewildered comic is still coaxing laughter, sans crudeness. Only now, he’s braying all the way to the bank. Marvel as Regan eviscerates the likes of Dora the Explorer and butterflies at the Uptown Theater (3700 Broadway) tonight at 8. Tickets cost $38.50; call 816-753-8665 for information.
