Sacrificing Himself for Charity

Bill Belzer toured Europe playing drums for Uncle Tupelo in the early 1990s, which is an impossibly cool item to have on one’s résumé. But, over the years, he has also been in some memorable local bands: Mongol Beach Party, the New Amsterdams, Ssion. To benefit the Kansas City Free Health Clinic’s HIV testing programs, Belzer hosts what amounts to a roast of himself at RecordBar (1020 Westport Road, 816-753-5207). His current bands, the Sleazebeats and Mary Fortune, play sets, and Shannon Michaelski of Ssion MCs the event and busts Belzer’s balls. “Special guests, PowerPoint presentations, local celebrities and costume changes — fun!” says Belzer, whose new EP, You Shouldn’t Have, will be available for purchase. The show starts at 10 p.m., and the suggested donation is $10. — David Hudnall
