Ryan Cox accused of stabbing, killing Chason Pennington at Grain Valley bonfire

Ryan Taylor Cox, Chason Pennington and friends were drinking alcohol and smoking K2 synthetic marijuana at a bonfire party Saturday in the 29800 block of East AA Highway in Grain Valley.

Cox and Pennington, both 19, had been wrestling. They’d split. Each had won one. Pennington wanted to go one more time. He

wanted to box. Cox was done. Their friends were egging them on. They wanted another fight.

“No, no man,” Cox told him. “I don’t want to fight. I already fought you

twice. I am tired.”

Cox would later tell police that Pennington wouldn’t stop baiting him,

telling him, “Come on pussy.”

According to witnesses, Pennington either smacked Cox or

“lightly” punched him in the face. That’s when Cox allegedly stabbed Pennington.

“He stabbed me in the heart,” Pennington said before falling to the

ground. Blood was pouring from his chest.

“I’m fucking dying,” Pennington said. “I am gonna bleed to death.”
