Royals Aim To Lock Up Home-Field Advantage In Playoffs In Season’s Final Month, Tickets Only Rising

Many people questioned whether the Kansas City Royals were legitimate last year, when they mowed through the American League side of the playoffs, before narrowly falling in seven games to the San Francisco Giants in the World Series. Entering September, it’s quite clear that the Royals are for real, owning one of baseball’s best records, while being on the verge of locking up home-field advantage through the AL postseason.

Whether or not the Royals can end the year with league’s best record is anyone’s guess, but with their playoff ticket all but officially punched, it really won’t matter. Instead, Kansas City fans can enjoy the final stretch run knowing their team is getting ready to hopefully make another deep playoff run, rather than fighting to get in.

With playoff certainty in their grasp, Royals tickets are understandably fairly hefty the rest of the way, as playoff tickets help the team carry a solid $137.74 average, according to SeatSmart. There is a ton of value to be had in their remaining regular season games, however, and fans will see most of that in the month of September. To see just how much value is to be had for Kansas City fans, let’s break down the cheapest and priciest Royals tickets for the season’s final full month:

Cheapest – 9/16/2015 @ Cleveland Indians at Progressive Field | Avg: $28 | Get-in: $4

The cheapest game of September for the Royals could be an interesting one for a couple of reasons. One, because it’s against a division opponent on the road that has played them very competitively in their season series this year, and two, the Indians are a hot team right now, owning a six-game winning streak entering September. As a result, the Indians have vaulted back into the conversation for the second and final American League Wild Card berth, which could give this game playoff implications when it goes down in mid-September. In turn, tickets to see Cleveland and KC square off may only increase leading up to gameday. The Royals, meanwhile, are still in the process of trying to seal up home-field advantage in the AL, making this a great value buy for tickets. The average ticket price of $28 is incredibly low for a Royals game, as is the ridiculous $4 get-in price.

Most Expensive – 9/6/2015 VS. Chicago White Sox at Kauffman Stadium | Avg: $151.11 | Get-in: $31

Another intense AL Central battle happens just 10 days earlier, when the White Sox visit the Royals at Kauffman Stadium. Luckily, Chicago hasn’t been nearly as problematic for the Royals as Cleveland has, with Kansas City holding a 10-3 season-series edge up to this point. Additionally, Kansas City is also in their own backyard for this one, which pushes Chicago’s odds at an upset even further down. This series has the potential to showcase two of the finest aces in the American League, Chicago’s Chris Sale and Kansas City’s Johnny Cueto, which could only boost the value of this particular contest if one or both appear on September 6. The average is a bit steep considering the Sox are probably out of the playoff race, but with the Royals in a winnable matchup while trying to lock down home-field advantage throughout the AL playoffs, it might still be worth it for Royals fans.
