Roy Blunt believes Obama is an American citizen afterall
Be careful what you ask for, Roy Blunt. The Missouri Congressman was ambushed on whether he believes Barack Obama is an American citizen. OK, ambush is a little harsh considering it’s a yes or no question. But yesterday’s video from Fire Dog Lake showed Blunt saying that birthers were raising a “legitimate question” and that he didn’t know why Obama couldn’t provide a birth certificate (Obama can and has).
Blunt’s spokesman kept telling blogger Greg Sargent to just wait until the unedited tapes were released. Vindication was right around the corner, right? Not exactly. Here’s the first tape where Blunt gives a yes — although still trying to dodge the question. He says it off camera, and it’s hard to hear.
Mike Stark, the Fire Dog Lake interviewer, asked again the next day. That’s when Blunt fed the birther conspiracy, giving the slimy “I don’t have any reason not to believe that [Obama was born in the United States].”
As Jon Stewart pointed out on The Daily Show, that’s a pretty
lazy reply and can go both ways. Like, say, “I don’t have any reason not
to believe that Roy Blunt was faithful to his first wife.”
