Round Trip

If you like your entertainment based on novels but don’t feel like seeing The Lovely Bones, then we recommend watching the Jules Verne classic Around the World in 80 Days, which has come to life at the Kansas City Repertory Theatre. Just try to be bored as moneybags Phileas Fogg takes a gentleman’s wager that the world can be crossed in a few months, and then sets out on an adventure by boat, train and elephant that takes him to Calcutta, Hong Kong and anywhere else he can avoid those nasty sea storms. The production from writer-director Laura Eason and the Lookingglass Theatre Company has already earned great praise in Chicago. It plays today through February 14 in UMKC’s Spencer Theatre (4949 Cherry, 816-235-2700). Evening shows run daily except Mondays; most weekends offer matinee performances.
