Roller derby ain’t just for the ladies anymore

Roller derby has long been a staple of the Kansas City underground. And why not? Watching women in tight, sparkly hot pants shove each other while moving at high speed is all kinds of awesome. But now, roller derby isn’t just a women’s sport any longer.
The Cowtown Butchers, Kansas City’s newest roller-derby team, is going to battle it out with Indianapolis’ Race City Rebels on March 19. Though the Cowtown Butchers sport the same rough-and-tumble attitude, helmets and kneepads as Kansas City’s 80 other Roller Warriors, there is one noticeable difference: They’re dudes.
