Rodrigo y Gabriela

Rodrigo y Gabriela’s guitar grooves aren’t searing just because the Mexican duo is impassioned. Rodrigo Sanchez and Gabriela Quintero are also metal freaks. The musicians collided in Mexico City’s thrash metal scene, but now they rely on acoustic guitars to create their blend of metal and flamenco-inspired jazz. With no rhythm section and very few electronic effects, they weave their way through original tunes and covers of classics such as Metallica’s “Orion” and Pink Floyd’s “Wish You Were Here.” They’re touring in support of their latest CD, 11:11, which features original songs dedicated to different artists who’ve inspired them, including jazz-rock legend Al Di Meola, with whom they performed in Paris last year.
