Robbie Fulks

It’s no surprise that Nashville tastemakers have radically undervalued talented singer and guitarist Robbie Fulks. After all, the Columbia University alum is far more intelligent than your average country bumpkin, and he’s unafraid to tackle serious topics such as addiction and Susanna Hoffs — occasionally within the same song. Fulks is renowned for the black comedy that steeps his best work (“White Man’s Bourbon,” “Goodbye, Good Lookin'”) in a spicy concoction composed of one part bawdiness and two parts wit. Of course, tunes such as “Fuck This Town” — a pointed and hilarious critique of the Nashville music industry — probably haven’t endeared Fulks to Music City bigwigs, either. But that just makes us like him more.
