Ride, Don’t Drive

As part of National Bike Month, 20 local organizations — including the Mid-America Regional Council, the Metro, Whole Foods and the Missouri Bicycle Federation — have partnered up to organize Greater Kansas City Bike Week. Giving even more pedal power to Kansas City’s bike scene, Bike Week events offer Kansas Citians the opportunity to sample a wide array of area cycling activities while encouraging drivers to forgo a Toyota in favor of a 10-speed whenever possible. Today, KC Women on Wheels celebrates the culmination of Bike Week with a free bicycle festival in Swope Park. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., attendees can join in rides, sit in on bike clinics and get women-specific bike and cycling information at vendor booths. Enter the park at Swope Parkway and 63rd Street. See kcwow.com for more information. Later, head to Acme Bicycle Company (412 East 18th Street) for the Tour de Cowtown, a bicycle scavenger hunt co-hosted by the Greater Kansas City Bicycle Federation. Early registration is $10 and guarantees you a T-shirt. Or register for $12 today at 5 p.m. The race begins at 6. Call Acme at 816-221-2045 for more information.
