Red-light cameras may be going bye-bye (but don’t get your hopes up yet)

I still find myself getting white-knuckled and riding the gas pedal every time I come to 39th Street and Southwest Trafficway. I know the red-light cameras are watching, waiting to flash me when I get stuck in the intersection due to heavy traffic or some jackass driving extra slow to avoid getting flashed and a $113 ticket.

Might not have to worry for long, thanks to Missouri state Sen. Jim Lembke (a Republican from South St. Louis County). Progress was made yesterday when the Missouri Senate endorsed Lembke’s amendment  — 23-8 — that would outlaw the cameras as part of a larger transportation bill (also included in the bill was a ban on texting while driving for all drivers — not just teens — and a ban on photo-radar speed enforcement).
