Records With Merritt, a new record store, opens in Westport May 6

Amid all the other record-store news this week – the Love Garden Sounds 24th birthday blowout, the Mills Record Co. one-year anniversary party – comes another announcement: There is fresh blood in town. Records With Merritt is set to open its doors at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 6.

Records With Merritt will occupy the space at 1617 Westport Road. There will be a soft opening tomorrow, May 3, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The store’s regular hours will be from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday; the store will be closed on Sunday and Monday. Owner Marion Merritt says the official grand-opening party will come in June.

“Basically, the music [selection] at Records With Merritt will be based on my 18 years of experience being the music manager at the Barnes & Noble on the Plaza,” Merritt says over the phone. “We’ll have new releases, soundtracks, international releases, boxed sets – it’s a mixture. I think we have a little more jazz than most people, standards and even some of the new people like Gregory Porter. We will be able to do special order, but right now, we’re starting off with a little bit of what i think people want and what I think people like based on my experience.”

Anyone who stops in to Records With Merritt tomorrow for the soft opening will have the opportunity to register to win some vinyl-related prizes.
