Recipe for Laughs

Stand-up comic Cheril Vendetti hasn’t been in Kansas City since she headlined at the old Tootsie’s, back before she met her partner, Tonya. Since then, she has become “Baby Daddy” to 9-month-old Sophia Rose and written a cookbook,
Mistress of the Mob Cuisine. “I never thought I’d get invited back,” Vendetti says. “I guess the whole town is getting tired of drag queens.” Vendetti calls her style of comedy “old school,” comparing her act with those of the late Totie Fields and early Joan Rivers. “I’m not mean, like Lisa Lampanelli. My audience just wants to have a good time. I’m a cross between Rosie O’Donnell and an old, drunk karaoke singer.” Vendetti performs — and sells cookbooks — at 8 p.m. at Sidekicks Saloon (3707 Main,
816-931-1430). Tickets cost $8.
