Radkey, the Floozies and an Ugly Sweater Party are this week’s concert tidings

The Floozies

Matt and Mark Hill must have sipped on some funky juice in the womb. Whatever weird and imaginative childhood they had growing up in Lawrence — perhaps a steady diet of Back to the Future and Parliament Funkadelic — it’s led them down the path of electronic music. Today, the brothers are best known for their work as the popular funk-electronica duo the Floozies — and for the rather epic shows they put on. Matt is the guitarist, and Mark is the drummer, and if you think one of their electronica shows is like going to see a DJ push a few buttons on a MacBook, think again. The Hills are entertainers, and Friday night at the Midland, your expectations should be high.

Ugly Sweater Party

David Hasselhoff on Acid, Steddy P, Loogey

Friday night at the Riot Room brings you all the comforts of Christmas — well, OK, maybe just one of the comforts of Christmas, and probably not your favorite. It’s an ugly-sweater party. You have one. You probably stole it from your grandmother’s closet, and it probably has a beaded reindeer on it, and you probably secretly love it. Well, kiddo, now’s the time to show it off. The Riot Room has assembled a local lineup that will get you out of the house for the night and give you a very good reason to sleep in the next morning. Experimental jazz and funk band David Hasselhoff on Acid is reuniting for the evening; rapper Steddy P (above) is on deck, along with doo-wop rapper Second Hand King; and up-and-coming rapper Loogey rounds out the night.

7 p.m. Friday, December 23, at the Riot Room, 4048 Broadway

Radkey

By now, the story of Isaiah, Solomon and Dee Radke is known far and wide. The St. Joseph–born brothers discovered their talents for the bass, drums and guitar, respectively, early in their lives. By the time they were teenagers, they were sharing their fierce shredding talents and old-school punk enthusiasm with crowds at South by Southwest. These days, the brothers Radke are being recognized not because their music is good for their age, but because their music is truly, simply good. Want evidence? Get Radkey’s recent Dark Black Makeup — and see for yourself Christmas night at RecordBar. Drop a Grand and Stuff Middle Fingers open.
