Put This in Your Pipe

These days, it’s hard to find a place in Kansas City where you can sit and revel in a cloud of tobacco smoke. Hard but not impossible. Kansas City’s hookah scene continues to heat up with Jaskki’s Tobacco Café (1400 West 12th Street, 816-421-4177). The warehouse lounge serves coffee, tea and hookah, and is the latest endeavor by the West Missouri Tobacco Alliance (owners of Main Street Tobacco at 4307 Main). The weekly calendar at the 18-and-older establishment includes free movies every Wednesday, starting at 6 p.m., and film selections come from Jaskki’s stockpile of DVDs. Guests can bring their own snacks and purchase beverages there. Hookah rental is $10 for up to four smokers. Jaskki’s menu spans nearly 150 flavors of tobacco, or shisha, to stuff in your hookah bowl. Try California Dream or Bananas Foster. Staff members can also fill the hookah base with a liquid other than water for added sensation (think mango juice or lemonade).— Crystal K. Wiebe
